MH Weekly 20: Islamic Art Week, Premium Raw Honey, Islamic books

👋🏼 Muslim Hub Weekly

Salams friends,

It's been an eventful week. The night of the election, I was re-watching Lord of the Rings, while doomscrolling to learn who gets control of Mordor Washington.

It was really interesting to see how Muslims in areas like Dearborn, Michigan voted for Trump! If you had told me in 2016 that Muslims would pick Donald Trump to be their rep & tell Sauron Netanyahu to end his genocide, I would’ve thought you’re smoking from Gandalf’s pipe.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS…this border

I concocted that elaborate introduction just to show you this cool poster I just got.

It’s a map of the Hijra, illustrated in the Tolkien style from the LOTR books... and of course, my cat decided it was the perfect spot for her 3rd nap of the day.

Speaking of art, The Global Centre of Islamic Art is hosting a free, online “Islamic Art Week” from November 16-22.

It’s an incredible lineup of practical workshops & insightful discussions from 38 artists. If you’re someone who wants to:

  • create Islamic geometric patterns & art in Procreate

  • understand the philosophy & principles of traditional Islamic architecture

  • learn what it takes to become a full-time artist

And much more, pick whichever sessions you want to virtually attend, for free!

Honey from Muzeja

Anyone that knows me, knows that I’m a bit of a honey aficionado.

I’ve been gatekeeping this brand for a long time, but I was running out of content for this week so you’re in luck.

Muzeja specializes in premium, organic honey — offering an incredible floral & aromatic tones & stands out because of the honey’s deep, golden color.

You’re probably aware of the high praise The Prophet ď·ş had for black seed, now imagine honey made from its plant — try it out for yourself!

Allah ď·» says in Surah An-Nahl (The Bee!):

And your Lord inspired the bees: “Make ˹your˺ homes in the mountains, the trees, and in what people construct - and feed from ˹the flower of˺ any fruit ˹you please˺, and follow the ways your Lord has made easy for you.”

From their bellies comes forth a drink varied in colors, in which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.

Fons Vitae is a non-profit publisher of books on Sufism, spirituality, and sacred arts.

They have one of the most fascinating collection of books on Islam I have come across.

Their cornerstone is the book-by-book translation of Imam Al-Ghazali’s Ihya Ulum al-Din, with forewords & notes from scholars like Hamza Yusuf & Timothy Winter (Abdal Hakim Murad).

I would buy them all, but then it’d be my bank account that would need a Revival.

If you’re looking for something for your kids, they also have a great selection of children’s books, including but not limited to their “Ghazali for Children” series.
