Communtity: outdoor excursions for women, groups for tech founders, and events!

Salam friends,
Happy New Year!
As we enter 1446 in the hijri calendar, I find myself reflecting on the significance of community.
The esteemed sociologist Ibn Khaldun asserted how important social cohesion, or asabiyyah (عصبيّة), was in the rise & fall of civilizations.
There are also countless ahadith of The Prophet ﷺ speaking about the blessing of the الجماعة, the united community — and that begins with strong, local networks.
So that’s why in this newsletter I want to promote 3 communities:
🏕️ outdoor adventures for Muslim women
👨👩👦 a hub for Muslim parents
👔 networks of Muslim founders & investors
The Prophet ﷺ said, "A believer to another believer is like a building whose different parts enforce each other." The Prophet (ﷺ) then clasped his hands with the fingers interlaced (while saying that).
As the sun shines brighter, it's the perfect time to dive into the great outdoors.
Ma’wa Collective is a community for Muslim-American women to embrace the outdoors. They plan & host safe excursions, building a community defined by a shared love for adventure.
From their Instagram account (@mawa.collective) it’s clear that the magic lies in the sisterhood forged during these trips, with stunning scenery serving as the backdrop.
Their last two summer trips just dropped:
Green Mountains in Vermont (Aug 2-5)
Santa Barbara, California (August 23-26)
These trips sell out fast, so RSVP or forward this to someone who’d be interested!
And speaking of community, it goes without saying that the cornerstone of community is the family unit.
Muslim Family Hub is an online community & resource pool helping parents navigate through the modern challenges of raising a Muslim family.
They provide practical resources & guides to to everyday challenges faced by Muslim families, covering topics like marriage, parenting, and more.
They also have a great podcast, where they discuss important things like “how to fight right in marriage” or tips on regulating screen time for children.
It’s important to think of asabiyyah in the context of the Muslim business ecosystem, where cohesion yields leverage & mutually beneficial relationships.
Here are two platforms that bridge the gap between founders & investors, but more importantly connect peers & mobilize the Muslim business community.
Muslim Tech Week
Now obviously, the best networks are formed in person and I have exciting news for you on that front.

After the success of the Muslim Tech Fest in London, the event is heading to San Francisco on September 8.
This will kick off a larger tech week, planned by The GMW Network from the 9th to the 11th of September.
As always, I’ve got you covered and will provide updates as they happen!
