MH Weekly 18: Muslim jobs, magazine for Islamic art, and a new sci-fi game for kids

👋🏼 Muslim Hub Weekly

Salams friends,

Was out this Friday getting a shawarma, because that’s just what you do in Toronto and its suburbs — I’m pretty sure we have more shawarma spots than the Arab world.

When the cashier tempted me with a beverage, I decided to give Salaam Cola a shot — you might’ve seen it on social media, but it’s becoming quite common now!

Is it good enough to replace Coke? I couldn't really tell the difference, but I don't drink much Coke anyway.

It may have some room for improvement, but with 10% of proceeds going to charitable causes (mostly to Palestine), it's good enough for me to make the switch.

But this touches on a core value at MuslimHub.co (and LaunchGood) — that it’s not enough to build Muslim versions of things, we have to build genuinely better products & services.

It’s not enough to boycott, we have to build!

Bayt Al Fann is an online platform showcasing Islamic art & culture, and they’ve just launched a new quarterly publication (in print & digital) to do just that.

Islam with Chinese characteristics…IYKYK

Their latest issue “Art of the Word” celebrates the beautification of the written word in Islamic civilization.

Featuring the work of 46 exceptional artists and creatives, it highlights works around the world on calligraphy, language, and poetry.

Time Hoppers is a new sci-fi game on the app store for kids to time-travel across the Golden Age in the Silk Road to save Muslim scholars from evil monsters.

It has all the key elements to a great game: zooming around a historic map, solving puzzles, & blasting bad guys, with the addition of story line immersed in the Islamic golden age.

It's a Muslim Kids TV project developed in collaboration with Omar Suleiman, Dalia Mogahed & other community leaders as a free resource to inspire Muslim kids.

They even got Yasir Qadhi to voice a character on the show!
