MH Weekly 12: Learn Arabic, Muslim Tech Fest & a free subscription to Niyyah App

👋🏼 Muslim Hub Weekly

Salam friends,

So I'm sure most of you have now seen OpenAI’s recent GPT 4-o presentation where they’ve made real-time language translation easier than ever. It prompted me (no pun intended) to think about what the future looks like for learning languages, especially for Muslims who want to learn Arabic.

But I came to the realization that the desire Muslims have to learn Arabic isn't really social, it's theological — it's so that we can understand the Speech of Allah ﷻ, meaningfully engage with the Quran and feel khushu in our prayers when we understand what’s being recited.

So it’s only right that we’ve launched a collection of resources that can help you Learn Arabic!

Learn Arabic — تَعَلَّمْ العَرَبِيَّة

We've launched a collection of products to help you learn Arabic, each with unique methods and approaches. Some offer full courses with daily commitments, while others are quick tools you can use on the go.

I’m interested in learning Arabic myself, so I'll be reviewing many of these apps and sharing my recommendations next week. But don’t wait for me — check some of these tools out today!

Muslim Tech Fest

Last week, Founders, Inc. hosted a talk with our founders (Chris, Amany & Omar) on what it’s like to “Bootstrap an Islamic Unicorn”.

It's an exciting time to be a Muslim founder, especially with new infrastructure like the Alif incubator. Applications for the current batch have closed, but keep an eye out for the next round and be ready to apply!

There was also a lively discussion on on a Muslim Tech Week to be held in September, with events currently being planned such as the following;

  • Deen Developers Hackathon

  • ethics discussion at Zaytuna College

  • Demo Day at Founders Inc/Alif

keep an eye out for newsletter where we’ll announce details!

Okay y’all huddle up because this is actually one of my favorite apps ! !

previously Guider App

Niyyah is designed to help users understand and truly apply the lessons of the Quran, in less than five minutes a day. I find myself using this app a lot while I’m commuting somewhere or even as a replacement for social media apps.

One of the coolest things is that Niyyah guides you via quizzes & content library based on your level of understanding, which is all the more effective in applying the Quran in your daily life.

Abu al-Tufayl reported: Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Speak to people only according to their level of knowledge. Would you like for Allah ﷻ and His Messenger ﷺ to be denied?”
