MH Weekly 21: Muslim Mental Health
👋🏼 Muslim Hub Weekly
Salams friends,
It’s that time again — the day’s ending at 5 PM. I’m D3-maxxing to prepare myself for the 2 week stint in December where I won’t see the Sun.
If it feels like the world is dimming along with the daylight, you’re not alone! ‘Tis the season, of seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
So this week I wanted to focus on mental health, and highlight organizations that fuse contemporary mental health research with the Islamic tradition.
Noor Meditation is an app that provides guided meditations to help you be more present in each moment, especially prayer.

They’re aimed to address everyday things like;
helping you sleep, through dhikr
drawing on the Prophetic tradition to help you control your anger
reducing stress & anxiety through the Qur’an
The sessions are rooted in the research Iqra Ashfaq (founder of Noor) conducted on the positive impact that meditation & salah has on stress reactivity & recovery.
Ruh Care is an online therapy platform offering accessible mental health care.
You can start by selecting a licensed Muslim therapist (diverse backgrounds & languages) or by filling out a form & Ruh will match you to one.
Then, book a free 15-minute call to decide if therapy is right for you—whether for yourself, couples therapy, or for your child.
Their new app has made it more accessible than ever;
letting you book & launch appointments
track your goals
message your therapist through secure chat
For UK visitors, check out MCAPN where you can find professional Muslim counselors in your city!
Mental Health Helplines
Sometimes, we just need someone to talk to without committing to formal therapy.
To that end, I want to highlight two organizations.
MYH is a national helpline, providing free & confidential faith and culturally sensitive support services to UK young Muslims in need.
They offer non-judgemental, confidential support 7 days a week, 365 days a year including bank holidays and Eid.
Naseeha 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
Naseeha is a non-profit dedicated to supporting the mental wellness of Muslims.
Initially, Naseeha started as a 24/7 confidential helpline and text-line offering support for mental & emotional distress.
Since then, they’ve added culturally sensitive web therapy options grounded in Islamic values, with financial assistance programs to ensure accessibility.
🛍️ straight from the souq
Bisma: a Chrome extension to turn your New Tab page into a serene Islamic space, with prayer times.
Sanzaa: contemporary modestwear for UK Muslim women.
The Bedouin Company: fresh spices & herbs from third generation spice traders.
Sabiqoun Books: curated selection of children’s literature.
Pfida: halal mortgages & savings account in the UK.
✈️ Maristan at the GMW Doha Summit
The last organization I wanted to highlight with regards to Muslim Mental Health is Maristan, headed by Dr. Rania Awaad.
Dr. Rania Awaad uniquely bridges modern mental health research with the Islamic tradition — as the Director of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Islamic Psychology Lab, and through her classical Islamic studies in Damascus where she earned multiple ijazat in the Islamic Sciences.

This blend of expertise enables her to advance holistic healing through Maristan, an organization focused on providing culturally and spiritually congruent, accessible, and affordable mental health care that integrates Islamic values with professional clinical care & research.
She’ll deliver a keynote address at the GMW Summit next week titled "Women as Architects of the Ummah".
I had the pleasure of attending a lecture by the Shaykha at last years RIS - it was deeply insightful, so I’d encourage any one who can, to do the same.
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Ar-Ra’d
أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ
Truly in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“A servant is not struck by worry or grief but let him say, ‘O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your decision over me has passed, and Your decree upon me is in justice. I ask You by every name with which You have named Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to one of Your creatures, or kept hidden in the Unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light within me, the banisher of my depression, and the expeller of my anxiety,’ then Allah will expel his worry and replace his grief with joy.”
